Old Bazaar
The Old Bazaar is the most popular tourist attraction in Skopje. It is located in the old part of Skopje- eastern of the Vardar River, stretching from the Stone Bridge to the Bit-Pazar. This is Skopje's center for trade and commerce since the 12th century and is one of the largest and most significant marketplaces in the Balkans. The old bazaar has gone through difficult times during wars and the earthquake in 1963, as well as many cultural changes. While your visit, you can feel the magic of the smell of the most beautiful Turkish tea, and you can try the best kebaps in town. Since the 16-th century manycraft workshops are keeping alive some of the oldest handmade artistry like filigree, goldsmiths, craftsman and sweet shops. Most of the buildings that once were used to host the travelers or as hammams, were transformed into museums and galleries, which today are used with the main purpose to host art exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. The most beautiful landmarks of the Old Bazaar are the Museum of Macedonia which is located close to KurshumliAn, Museum of Modern Art, Mustafa Pasha Mosque, the Church of the Holy Saviour, Daut Pasha Hammam, ChifteHammam, as well as mosques, türbes, two churches and a Clocktower.
